Mechanical Designer
Custom Fabricating & Repair, Inc. (CFR) is offering a great opportunity to join our team! We are currently seeking motivated, safety minded individuals for our Mechanical Design position. This job is located in Marshfield, WI.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The function of a Mechanical designer (MD) is to support the Mechanical Design Division Manager and the Director of Engineering with designs for projects and equipment. Primary responsibility will be to ensure the project managers, shops, supervisors and crew have the materials, equipment, and information necessary to complete the job. The MD is ultimately responsible for understanding and accomplishing the customer’s goals while protecting and promoting the interests of Custom Fabricating and Repair, Inc. in all matters. Starting pay is $32 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:
Ability to travel to site to familiarize yourself with project(s) as needed.
Review specifications and scope of work.
Prepare and distribute submittals and pre-sale drawings.
Efficiently prepare original layout, assembly, schematic, detail and proposal drawings using CAD techniques.
Generate original designs and simple design calculations, working with supervision as required.
Produce drawings to current department standards within schedule and cost (hours) goals
Check the work of supporting detailing efforts to ensure accuracy to applicable criteria.
Assists engineering in determining and employing proper specifications for materials, material finishes, fabrication processes, connections or other necessary components during the design process.
Revise engineering documents to the current department standards.
Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs).
Completes the preparation of the necessary technical documentation for the release of the design into the company documentation control system.
Utilize proprietary software as well as other engineering skills and knowledge to assure that work product meets design criterion and operating conditions.
Ability to interface effectively with other departments, including service, manufacturing, controls and automation, sales and marketing.
Perform other duties as required, including estimating and oversight of shop fabrication of systems and components.
Manage project specific materials and equipment purchases including: sourcing, maintaining vendor relations, ordering and tracking deliveries.
Ability to produce OEM documentation packages including but not limited to owner’s manuals, spare parts diagrams and safety training documentation.
Ability to travel to customer facilities to assist with commissioning activities.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Two to five years of direct experience in Mechanical Design. Preference would be given to a candidate with experience in the Food & Beverage Industry, sanitary components and/or piping.
Proficient with parametric modeling software specifically Autodesk Inventor and Solidworks. Experience with AutoCAD and other 3D drafting software.
Experience with AWS weld symbols and geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
Understanding of how design impacts manufacturing processes, machining and production routing.
Experience with process control mechanisms, motor sizing and proper selection other power transmission components. Knowledge of instrumentation components beneficial.
The ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Drawings.
Proficiency with PC and Windows Operating system, Microsoft Office.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s degree in Mechanical Drafting or similar field of study. Mechanical engineering degree will be considered.
3-5 years’ experience in Mechanical Design
